Diane’s Gravy and Biscuits

Old Fashion Gravy

1 1/2   to 2 Tbs. olive oil

1 heaping Tablespoon  Unbleached white flour (Kroger Brand)

1/2 cup Rice milk to 1/2 cup water  making 1 cup or all rice milk

1/4 tsp of Rumsford baking powder (helps flour to brown and not stick)mix with flour

In a skillet heat oil to almost a boil, then sprinkle in the heaping tbspoon of

flour (already mixed with baking powder), stirring quickly to brown lightly

then pour milk mixture in slowly and stir

continuously until desired thickness.  Add salt  to taste.

Serve over or with biscuits.  See biscuit recipe below:

Old Fashion Biscuits

3 cups unbleached flour

2 level TBS of Rumsford Baking powder

1 to 2  teaspoons of sea salt (Rita uses 2)

1/2 cup Rice Milk and 1/2 cup water to make 1 cup

stir first 3 items together then

in the center of the flour mixture make a well with your fist

place 1/4 cup coconut oil (the thick kind) in the well and

work with your fingers into the flour until  oil and flour becomes

small beads.  Then pour enough milk mixture into the flour

mixture to make it  dough like and mix very little with hands or wist

then place on floured plastic

or saran wrap on the counter and pat out to about 1/4  inch thick

and cut with biscuit cutter or the edge of a glass.  Place on  lightly

greased baking pan or parchment paper.  Bake at 450 for around 15

minutes or until brown.   You can also make drop buscuits by adding

more liquid.  The taste is the same.
